[ARTICLE] iKON GAINS ENORMOUS POPULARITY IN CHINA - ESTABLISHING THEMSELVES AS ICONIC KPOP ARTISTS10/7/2015 YG’s new boy group iKON is gaining enormous popularity in China, establishing themselves as an iconic K-Pop artist. As of Oct. 5th, “WELCOME BACK,” iKON’s title song in their debut half album “WELCOME BACK” released on the 1st of this month, ranked 3rd on the chart of QQMusic, China’s largest music website. Their title song “RHYTHM TA” was ranked 5thalong with popular songs of Chinese artists, which demonstrates iKON’s powerful presence despite the fact that they have made their debut in China very recently. The music videos released along with the songs have been extremely well received in China as well. As of Oct. 5th, the music videos of “AIRPLANE” and “RHYTHM TA” ranked 4th and 5th respectively on QQMusic’s MV Chart. The music video of their warm-up single “MY TYPE” was ranked 1st on Sep. 15th when it was released and has been ranked 6th for three weeks in a row now, dominating the chart with other songs of the boy group. And the three music videos ranked 1st, 2nd and 3rd respectively on K-Pop MV Chart, demonstrating the popularity of iKON in China, the next-generation K-Pop artist. On Weibo, the largest social media in China, “iKON” ranked 1st in real time search rankings immediately after “WELCOME BACK” was released. And there were more than 1.4 billion hashtags related to iKON’s debut.
At a press conference held after iKON’s debut concert “SHOWTIME” on Saturday, China’s largest video website Youku and other major media outlets reported on the concert, demonstrating the level of attention paid to the boy group. “We are grateful to many Chinese fans who love us,” said BOBBY, expressing their gratitude. “We’ll continue to do our best to live up to their expectations.” iKON dominated the music charts in Korea and abroad with their warm-up single “MY TYPE” and debut album “WELCOME BACK.” On Oct 3rd, they successfully held their debut concert “SHOWTIME” at Olympic Gymnastics Arena in Seoul, with the 13,000 tickets all sold out. And on Oct. 4th, they ranked 1st on “Inkigayo,” a music program aired on SBS, with their song “MY TYPE” for two weeks in a row, displaying their enormous popularity.
